Man in court after bonfire riot

A 22-YEAR-OLD man is due in court today charged with two public order offences following rioting in Banbridge on Wednesday.

The man will appear in Newry Magistrates’ Court. His arrest follows that of a 15-year-old girl and 21-year-old man yesterday. They are due in court on Monday August 20.

An 18-year-old man was also arrested following the trouble on the Scarva Road on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice. He has been released on bail pending further police enquiries.

Police and fire crews were attacked with bricks, bottles and stones after a fire commemmorating the introduction of internment was lit at a disused factory at Brookfield and later across the road near the steps leading into Edenderry.
