Man in court on rape charge

Michael Patrick Doherty (41), with a bail address in Jersey, faces two charges of rape between November 6 and November 9, last year.

During a brief hearing at the Magistrates Court, Doherty confirmed he understood the charges, but declined to say anything in answer to them or to call any evidence on his own behalf.

Defence counsel Nicola Coulter accepted there was a case for Doherty to answer.

Doherty was released on continuing bail to appear in court again on September 7.
