Man in suspicious approach to girl, 15

It was reported that a 15-year-old girl was walking along the road when a man in a small new metalic light blue car pulled up alongside her and offered her a lift.

The man is described as being in his 40s, of slim build, shaved head and wearing blue jeans and dark sunglasses. He spoke with a local accent.

A police spokesperson said: “We would appeal to anyone who witnessed this reported incident or who has any information in relation to it to contact police in Coleraine on 0845 600 8000.

“It is not yet known what the man’s intentions were however the girl reacted in the correct manner, refused to take a lift and reported the incident to the police.

“As with every suspicious approach incident reported to us, it will be thoroughly investigated. I would ask the community to always be mindful of their own personal safety; be vigilant and report anything you deem to be suspicious, including vehicle details and individual descriptions.”
