McAlinden condemns thieves

SDLP Councillor Declan McAlinden said he was appalled after a call during Monday night’s council meeting when he learned of the third burglary in less than a week.

He revealed that thieves had stolen money and jewellery in the Bay Rampart area while an elderly woman went shopping with her son and daughter on Monday afternoon.

Police in Craigavon are appealing for information following a further two burglaries in the Ardmore and Derrymacash Road areas on Friday, June 29.

In the first incident, entry was forced to a house in Ardmore Road between 6.30pm and 9pm. A room was ransacked and a quantity of gold jewellery taken.

In the second incident entry was forced to a house in Derrymacash Road between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.

The front door of the house was damaged and a number of rooms ransacked. A quantity of jewellery was taken.

Police are treating the incidents as connected and are appealing to anyone who has information in relation to these incidents to contact them on 0845 600 8000.

SDLP councillor McAlinden said: “I would call on people in rural areas if they see suspicious activity going on at all to contact the local PSNI and take number plates at all times of vehicles which are suspicious.

“Always ask for identification when people call at your house and keep vigilant on your neighbours property,” he said

“The people who are doing this have no thought or consideration for their victims. All they are interested in is a quick way of gaining money,” said the SDLP councillor.
