McLeister accused granted bail

THE man charged with the manslaughter of Coleraine father-of-three Colin McLeister has had a bail application approved.

Mr McLeister was found dead at the bottom of the stairs at The Playhouse entertainment complex, Portrush in the early hours of December 17th last year.

The accussed, Muredach Martin Doherty (34), was not present at North Antrim Magistrates’ Court during last Wednesday’s hearing.

A number of conditions have been placed on the defendant.

These include: a curfew between 9pm to 5am, he is not to enter Coleraine, Portrush or Portstewart, he is to have no contact with witnesses, surrender his passport and be tagged.

Doherty is not permitted to consume alcohol or enter licensed premises or offsales and agree to a breath test.

The defendant must also reside at an agreed adress, which was made known only to police and present himself to officers when they call.

Doherty, who had to provide a surety of £500 as well as his own bail of £500, will reappear before the court on February 13.
