Issuing the advice on a post on social media, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Recently we have received reports of people gathering around sites, abandoned buildings and derelict houses either for fun or some sort of ‘urban exploration’.

“As you might expect these properties are not safe to enter without the appropriate training and safety equipment.

“You should not trespass even if the ‘security fence’ is open and you need to practice your parkour skills. Our advice - if you’re not sure if you have permission to enter a property, assume you don’t!”

The spokesperson added: “Last week four people needed hospital treatment after falling, when exploring a building that they had no permission to be in. Please don’t be the next person needing treatment.

“We have increased our patrols of these properties- including Drumnagreagh Hotel and Cairndhu House, which have both recently been damaged. We will be checking CCTV to identify any offenders.”
