More crime at house parties

MORE assaults and robberies are taking place within homes because people can’t afford to go to nightclubs and bars.

The revelation came as CI Ken Mawhinney said recent police figures for call-outs showed more incidents were happening at house parties as peoplesocialise at home during the recession.

“A lot of crime has moved away from the street now that there seem to be more house parties,” CI Mawhinney told DPP members. “There are more thefts and burglaries and I think it’s down to the recession as less people go outside of the home for drinks at the weekend.”

The Area Commander said the figures did have one positive. “It’s making it slightly safer on the streets.”
