More than 4,500 incidents of anti-social behaviour in Upper Bann over past year

There have been calls for the community to unite as more than 4,500 incidents of anti-social behaviour have been reported to the PSNI in Upper Bann over the past year.

Lurgan had the highest levels of anti-social behaviour with 1,611 incidents while 1,423 were reported in Portadown and 836 were reported in the Banbridge area.

Upper Bann MLA Sydney Anderson said: “I am frankly overwhelmed. It is now imperative that the community as a whole unite together to ensure that incidents of anti-social behaviour are reduced as much as possible as we move forward. In particular the PSNI, the new ABC Policing and Community Safety Partnership, other community safety partner agencies such as Fire and Rescue services and social housing landlords all have a responsibility to deal with anti-social behaviour and to help those who are suffering as a result of it. When looking at police figures it appears that generally cases of anti-social behaviour increase over the summer. It is vital that people act responsibility. An individual could get a criminal record which can severely impact upon and limit future educational and employment prospects. I will be meeting with the police in the coming days to discuss issues of anti-social behaviour.”
