Moygashel arson being treated as 'hate attack'

Police are investigating a Friday night incident in which a Moygashel man's car was set on fire and his house splattered with paint, as a '˜hate attack'.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said officers have been out to see the man since the incident and that they remain in contact with him.

They also revealed that no arrests have yet been made in relation to the attack.

The incident, which took place while street lights were out in Moygashel on Friday night, saw the man's jeep-type vehicle burned out in the middle of the road.

A subsequent report from police outlined how windows in his home were also damaged, before paint was thrown at the building

Police said on Saturday they were investigating the incident of criminal damage in the Hillcrest Park area of Moygashel (Friday, February 24) but were still working to establish a motive.

Now they have determined that it will be investigated as a 'hate attack'.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "At around 8.25pm it was reported that a Nissan Terrano that was parked in the area had been set on fire. Police and NIFRS attended and the fire was extinguished.

"The vehicle was destroyed as a result of the fire

"Damage was also caused to windows of the house that the vehicle was parked outside and paint was also thrown at the house during the incident.

"Police are appealing to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area or anyone who has any information about this incident to contact officers in Dungannon on 101, quoting reference number 1165 24/02/17.
