New BBC documentary on young woman Caitlin Hanna trafficked in Belfast comes to screen

A new documentary exploring the short life of a young Belfast woman who was groomed and trafficked is to be screened on BBC NI on Tuesday, February 3.

Featuring police and family testimony, this new hour-long documentary ‘Caitlin Hanna: Trafficked In Belfast’ explores the short life and tragic death of a young Belfast woman and how her death fuelled a three-year police investigation that exposed a hidden criminal underworld operating in Northern Ireland.

Featuring testimony from Caitlin Hanna’s mother, sister, friends, and the PSNI, the documentary tells how her family and friends were unaware that she had been exploited by a criminal enterprise who groomed, controlled and supplied drugs to many young local women.

She was just 21-years-old when she died from an overdose in 2022.

Following Caitlin’s sudden death, more victims bravely began to come forward, helping to put four men behind bars. Derek Brown, a 61-year-old man who trafficked, spied on and sexually assaulted Caitlin, was handed a six-year sentence in 2025.
