New police and community partnership is formed in Ballymena

A new body dedicated to improving quality of life for residents in Ballymena Borough in relation to crime and anti-social behaviour has just come into existence.

Ballymena Policing and Community Safety Partnership met for the first time at the Council offices in Ardeevin this week, and heard of the major challenges that lie ahead.

Currently the PCSP is made up of political and independent members, who will be joined in the near future by representatives of a number of statutory bodies, designated following the completion of a consultation exercise.

Welcoming the 19 new members of the PCSP, Council’s Chief Executive, Anne Donaghy said “This Partnership has a unique opportunity to make a difference in ways that really matter for the people of our Borough. We have just launched the Council’s Corporate Plan and the work of this team and all the skills and abilities you bring to the table of Partnership working will contribute to our overall vision of “Great People Great Place”.

The Chair elect of Ballymena PCSP, Councillor Audrey Wales is in no doubt that Partnership members are facing an intensive work programme over the forthcoming weeks. “Although we have heard news this evening that a transition plan for projects addressing crime and anti-social behaviour up to end of August 2012 has been approved, we will not slacken in aiming to have a full, new action plan completed by that date. We aim to be innovative, creative and unstinting in our efforts to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in Ballymena Borough and in utilizing the community planning “Partnership working” model to help us achieve that aim”.

Notes to Editor:

The Ballymena partnership is one of 26 throughout Northern Ireland, one in each Council area, established under the Justice Act (Northern Ireland) 2011.

The new partnerships bring together within a single partnership the functions and responsibilities previously undertaken by the District Policing Partnerships and Community Safety Partnerships. Local members are as follows:-
