Object set alight at front door of house in Larne ‘arson’ attack

Police are investigating a report of an arson attack at a property in the Kylemore Gardens area of Larne in the early hours of today (Thursday).

Detective Sergeant Toni Lenaghan said: “We received a report from our colleagues in the NIFRS (Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service) at around 3.25am that they were dealing with a fire at a house in the Kylemore Garden area.

“It is understood that an object was placed at front door of the property and set on fire, destroying the door and causing smoke damage to the interior of the property.

“Thankfully there was no one in the property at the time, however the fire could have spread to neighbouring properties.

Police are appealing for information following the report of an arson attack at the Larne property.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious or any who may have information to get in touch with police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 182 of 07/05/20.”

The fire service said three appliances, two from Larne and one from Ballyclare, responded to the incident.

A NIFRS spokesperson said: “Firefighters wore breathing apparatuses and carried out a search of the property, there were no casualties.

“Firefighters used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

“The cause of the fire is believed to have been deliberate ignition and the incident was dealt with by 04.01am.”
