Patrick Joseph Collins (43) of Millrace Drive, Moneymore, was also given eight penalty points on charges of having no insurance, taking a vehicle without authority and driving while unaccompanied.

The court heard the offences came to light on September 19, when police at Meadowlane Centre checked insurance details for a car which was being driven by the defendant. PPS counsel said the check showed the car was insured to a female. Police followed Collins and later spotted the vehicle emerging from an address in Moneymore being driven by a female with the defendant in the passenger seat.

A solicitor, said Collins didn’t want to wake his wife up to take him to Magherafelt and took the car to go himself.
