Parental vigilance urged following fights organised online

Police in Foyle are strongly encouraging parents to take an active interest in their children’s social networking sites following several reports of organised fights in the city in recent weeks.

PSNI Neighbourhood Constable Shona Holmes said: “What may start off as an argument between one or two people can quickly escalate and the potential for serious injury cannot be underestimated. Younger children in particular could find themselves being drawn into a situation that is potentially very dangerous.

“We are asking parents to take responsibility and know what their children are up to when they leave the house. Parents need to closely monitor the social media internet sites their children are using and talk to them about the dangers of getting caught up in this sort of dangerous and antisocial behaviour.
