Officers from Glengormley Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted a visit to Mayfield High Street and Lillian Bland Park following continued reports of anti-social behaviour in these areas.

Commenting on today’s meeting, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Sadly we still receive reports of groups of young people acting in an anti-social manner, causing issues for staff and customers at Mayfield High Street Tesco, along with reports of young people throwing stones at vehicles from Lillian Bland Park in Glengormley.

“We were joined by our Crime Prevention officer, staff from the Police Community Safety Partnership and staff from Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council to see what could be done to make the area safer for members of the public and what changes could be made to help deter anti-social behaviour.”

The spokesperson added: “Some ideas include changing or redesigning fencing, improving lighting and improving CCTV coverage. We will of course continue to patrol these areas to provide a visible presence and work in partnership with our Community Safety Wardens and Street Pastors.

“Details of a number of youths identified as causing issues for staff at Tesco Mayfield have been taken and their parents have been contacted. These details have been passed to our Youth Diversion officer for follow up.”

Last month officers vowed to step up patrols across Newtownabbey after recent anti-social behaviour in the region.
