The detectives also want to hear from anyone with information on a burglary which happened in the early hours of Wednesday last, again in the early hours, probably sometime between 2am and 4am.

In this incident a mobile telephone, bearing the brand name ‘Nexus’ was stolen from a house at Foyle Road.

“Meanwhile, at about 1.30pm on Wednesday, a purse was stolen from a house at Primity Crescent in Newbuildings,” a PSNI spokesman said.

“Information on any of the incidents can be given by contacting the detectives at Strand Road on the 101 non-emergency number,” the spokesman said.

Alternatively those who would prefer can also pass on information about the incidents or the whereabouts of any stolen goods anonymously by using the Crimestoppers freehone telephone number, 0800 555 111.”

The PSNI spokesman said that Foyle police were also encouraging householders to ensure that they closed and locked their windows and doors when they go out and also when they go to bed at night, which would help to thwart burglars.

“Open doors and windows give burglars open access to homes,” he said.
