Police chasing armed robber

DETECTIVES in Londonderry are on the hunt for a man who attempted to rob a bookmaker’s shop in the Blucher Street area of the city yesterday evening (Wednesday, August 15).

Police are appealing for information about the attempted armed robbery in the Bogside area of Londonderry. A PSNI spokesperson said: “Shortly after 5.40pm a man, carrying a baton entered the premises and demanded money from a member of staff.

“The man smashed a number of television screens in the premises before making off empty handed. No-one was injured during the incident. The man is described as being approximately 5’8” tall and wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.

“Police would ask anyone who may have witnessed this incident or was in the area and saw suspicious activity to contact them at Strand Road Police Station on 0845 600 8000. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
