Police in Lisburn are committed to “working towards a permanent solution” to anti-social behaviour at Hilden Mill

Following the latest fire at the former Hilden Mill, Lisburn and Castlereagh’s Chief Inspector has said the police are committed to “working towards a permanent solution” to tackle anti-social behaviour at the site.

Hilden Mill has been empty since 2006 and despite proposals to develop the site, the historic buildings have continued to lie idle, becoming a target for anti-social behaviour.

The police have said there has only been one report to police each year since 2022. The last report regarding the location aside from the report yesterday was received back in June 2023, and previous to that was July 2022.

However, the Chief Inspector has said she is committed to tackling the on-going issue.

Chief Inspector McMullan said: “that whilst there has been limited reporting, we are very much committed to working towards a permanent solution.

"Our officers continue to work alongside partner agencies, local representatives, schools and the community to find collaborative and proactive solutions to address the problem, but it’s not something police can do alone – we need the support of others.
