Police investigate fire damage to vehicles

Police in Coleraine are appealing for information about incidents in which vehicles were damaged by fire.

In the early hours of Friday morning, police received reports of fires in the Ballymoney and Garvagh area.

Chief Inspector Mark McClarence said: “A Boleran Road, Garvagh, a car and a van were set on fire shortly before 1am. Both were badly damaged. The car was parked close to a house and the heat of the flames caused a window to break.

“The fire service believes that had a passing motorist not spotted the flames when he did, the fire could have caused serious damage to the house.”

“Meanwhile, at about 3.30am on Friday, the fire service turned out to a car on fire at Burnquarter Lane, Ballymoney. The fire spread to three other vehicles and a trailer.

“At this stage no link between the two incidents has been established, nor has a motive.”
