It is believed the damage was caused sometime overnight at buildings on Taylor’s Avenue, Belfast Road, Albert Road, and North Street.

Superintendent Michael Simpson said: “We believe all of these reports are linked and I would urge anyone with information about who is responsible or saw any suspicious activity in these areas overnight, to call us on 101, and quote reference number 1362 of 02/02/21.”

Threatening loyalist graffiti appeared in the east Antrim town earlier in the week amid heightened tensions over the Brexit fallout.

Condemning those behind the graffiti, Alliance Councillor Noel Williams said: “It is an absolute disgrace and damaging property in the town. It is not the way to resolve these issues.”

Incidents in neighbouring Larne are under police investigation too.
