Police probe ‘off the ball’ assault at Lurgan football game

The incident is said to have occured during a match between Glenavon and Ballymena at Mourneview Park.

It was the match between the reserve teams.

Constable Colin Payne explained: “During a football match between Glenavon and Ballymena at football grounds on Mourneview Avenue on Wednesday night, 12 August, it was reported that an assault occurred during an ‘off the ball’ incident between two players. A 16 year old male sustained facial injuries which required medical treatment.

“This incident would have occurred in view of the people who attended the match and we would like to hear from any spectators who witnessed the assault or have information which may assist our investigation. We can be contacted in Lurgan on 101, quoting ref: 337 150815.”
