Police seek info on fireworks

BALLYMENA PSNI have been inundated since the start of October with calls from residents complaining about the noise and nuisance caused by illegal fireworks, a local police inspector has revealed.

Inspector John Allen says police in the town are keen to crack down even further on the sale, possession and use of the devices and appealed for more people to come forward with information that could potentially lead to seizures.

He pointed out that on October 4, over 800 fireworks were seized from a property in Ballykeel and, on the same day, a stop and search initiative resulted in 10 thunder rockets being seized from a youth in Ahoghill.

“We are being proactive in our approach and would appeal to the public to assist us in seizing dangerous and illegal fireworks by informing us if they know who is selling them or letting them off,” he said.
