Police thanks after bridge robbery

Police in Londonderry would like to thank local people for their support and assistance with the investigation into the armed robbery that occurred at the Peace Bridge in the City on Tuesday evening.

Detective Chief Inspector Garry Eaton praised both the efforts of his officers and the swift actions of members of the public. He said “I would like to thank everyone who helped us with this investigation which was invaluable to achieving a speedy, quality response and allowing us to make arrests and place suspects before the courts.

“This type of crime is rare in our City and I can assure you, we will not tolerate criminals who put the lives of local people in danger or inflict fear in our community.”

A 25-year-old man has been charged with robbery, converting criminal property, attempting to convert criminal property and fraud by false representation, while a 19-year-old female has been charged with assisting offenders, attempting to do an act with intent to pervert the course of justice, two counts of fraud by false representation and two of converting criminal property.

Both are expected to appear at Londonderry Magistrates Court tomorrow, Friday.
