Police use stinger device to bring driver to a stop

A male driver has been arrested on suspicion of 20 offences after police in Newtownabbey were forced to use a stinger device to stop his vehicle.

A police spokesperson said the driver had failed to stop for police in Ballyclare and Newtownabbey on Saturday evening and as a result "numerous resources" had to be deployed to the area.

"Well-positioned officers deployed a stinger, bringing the reckless driver to a safe stop," the spokesperson added.

Following a short pursuit, which resulted in officers chasing the male on foot, he was arrested for offences including dangerous driving, having no driving licence or insurance, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, and possession of a Class A controlled drug with intent to supply.
