Twenty-one-year-old Rory Coyle from Keeran Braye, Pomeroy, was also ordered to pay a £15 offender's levy on two counts of possessing the drug on October 15 last.

District judge Michael Ranaghan remarked that the defendant had a small amount of cannabis found in a grinder and in a plastic wrap.

On being told the defendant was not present in court and was working in Dublin, the judge said he would deal with the matter.

However, Mr Ranaghan warned that this would be the last time Coyle would be fined for drug possession.

He told the defendant's defence lawyer to inform him that if he came before the court again in future for a similar matter he could face a custodial sentence.

The judge made a destruction order for the cannabis and gave Coyle 10 weeks to pay the fine.
