£32,000 worth of drugs seized

COLERAINE police have taken nearly £32,000 worth of drugs off the streets in the last three months, according to official figures released this week.

PSNI officers in H District, headed by Chief Inspector Nicky Thompson, seized the drugs from dealers across the borough during the period April 1st to July 3rd.

Herbal cannabis plants accounted for the lion’s share of the haul, netting officers some £26,000 worth at current street value.

The figures were released this week by Chief Inspector Thompson at the August meeting of Coleraine’s District Policing Partnership, held in Garvagh last week.

The senior officer described the seizures as “significant” and said they evidenced Coleraine Police’s success in the ongoing battle to rid the borough of illegal substances.

During the second quarter of this year, police have seized mephadrone to the value of £800, ecstasy powder £400, herbal cannabis £3690 and cannabis resin with a street value of £1,200.

“These seizures impact primarily on those people who are dealing drugs and are in addition to a number of persons having small amounts in their possession for personal use,” said Chief Inspector Thompson.
