£400,000 cannabis find near Foreglen

Cannabis plants worth an estimated £400,000 have been seized by police in Co Derry.

Neighbourhood officers from Limavady made the find last night in a house at Farkland, near Foreglen, just off the main Derry to Dungiven Road.

Chief Inspector Alan Hutton, the Area Commander, described the find as “significant.”

“This was one of the largest finds in the North West for some time, and comes just a few weeks after police seized £1m worth of plants near Portadown.

“This was a sophisticated operation. The house had blacked out windows and a heat supply to the plants. Inside were about 900 plants at different stages of growth.

“This find shows that cannabis cultivation is a Northern Ireland wide activity. It can occur in both urban and rural areas.”

The plants were uncovered by Limavady neighbourhood officers on patrol of the rural area last night.

A man arrested at the scene remains in custody.
