Of these, 923 are the tougher fines introduced last month which begin at £200. Police had previously issued 2101 of the older £60 fines to individuals up until the new penalty notice was introduced.

Police have also issued 816 notices to businesses for breaches or owners of private dwellings for unlawful gatherings of which 25 have been given the tougher commercial penalty notice of £1000-£10,000.

And 49 people have been fined £1000 for failing to isolate, with a further 1476 being given Community Resolution Notices (CRNS).

The PSNI says CRNs provide a quicker, more victim tailored method of dealing with specific offences than a formal prosecution where a comparatively minor crime has been committed and an agreement is reached regarding how the offender can make good the loss, damage or harm caused to the victim.
