Public order offenders in court

Francis Dunlop, of 249 Woodbrook, committed the offence on March 9 at Sevenoaks, and the court heard it happened after police were called to help extricate him from his girlfriend’s house.

Prosecuting Counsel said Dunlop had been drinking all day at his partner’s home, and at 2am she contacted the police to say that Dunlop was ‘very drunk, aggressive and refusing to leave’.

The PSNI attended the house and persuaded Dunlop to leave. He was in the street outside and started to walk away from the house, but he then shouted ‘You are throwing me out of my own house’ and shouted at police to ‘f--k off’.

Warned about his behaviour he kept shouting and was subsequently arrested. Counsel said he had a previous relevant record.

Paddy MacDermott, defending, said his client had been very intoxicated and had no recollection of the incident.

He said there had been no malicious intent and it had been nine years since he had been last convicted of disorderly behaviour.

At the same court, the District Judge, Barney McElholm, asked for a pre-sentence report on a 23-year-old man charged with disorderly behaviour at Strand Road.

Before the court was Gavin Mark Patrick Fisher, of 24 Swilly Gardens, Londonderry, who was also charged with resisting and obstructing police and possession of a Class C drug, namely Diazepam, on March 4 this year, in the County Court Division of Londonderry.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley, told the Court that a pre-sentence report might prove beneficial.

Deferring penalty until May 9, District Judge Barney McElholm ordered Fisher not to be intoxicated in public places, to submit to any PSNI requests for breath testing and not to possess drugs.
