Resident is praised for turning away bogus callers

A BANBRIDGE resident has avoided becoming a victim of crime after checking the identity of bogus callers.

On Monday, 31 October, two males called to to door of a house in Iveagh Walk shortly before 1pm and claimed to be from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and were checking water pipes. The female occupant refused them entry and checked the caller’s claims with the company. They confirmed that no one from NIHE was in the area for that reason.

The two males, one of whom was carrying a small set of ladders, walked off in the direction of Reilly Street.

E District’s Crime Prevention Officers said: “This is exactly how we want the public to deal with callers to their homes. Take the time to check that their identity is genuine - if they are genuine they will not mind waiting.

“If anyone noticed these men in the area or would like advice on dealing with bogus callers they can contact us in Banbridge on 0845 600 8000.”
