Residents need to be vigilant following oil thefts and attempted break-ins

Magherafelt Sinn Féin Councillor Darren Totten is calling on residents and businesses to be “extra vigilant” following recent oil thefts and attempted burglaries in the town.

He said: “These are anti-community actions and they come at a time when everyone should be looking out for one and other but unfortunately there are those who are committing crime in uncertain times.”

The local councillor stressed there is no place for this behaviour in society.

He continued: “Everyone should feel safe and secure in their own homes and I would remind everyone to be extra vigilant, secure your sheds, oil tanks and outbuildings.

“Do not take risks and if you see anyone acting suspiciously within our communities please alert the relevant authorities.”

The PSNI say the public should review their home security at regular intervals in order to protect their property and belongings.

Anyone who would like advice on methods to deter thieves can contact their local Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101.
