Road safety swoop on motorists

Police conducted a proactive crime and road safety operation this week that was aimed at enforcing road safety legislation and tackling criminals who use the road.

During the operation police detected 12 motorists driving without insurance and they also caught a drink driver, two disqualified drivers, two people who had taken a motor vehicle without the owners consent and made two arrests for drug offences. Another eight people with outstanding warrants were also apprehended during the operation.

PSNI Inspector Jon Burrows said: “This was a proactive operation tackling those who use the road to commit crime and pose a danger to the safety of road users. Such operations are intended to keep the roads safe and to make the citizens of Foyle safer.”
