Roofing material, gate and cash all stolen from PSNI stations

The items are recorded among a series of thefts, burglaries and robberry offences from PSNI stations and police vehicles across the proivince since 2009.

Magherafelt PSNI station was the subject of its own crime investigation when someone stole an unknown sum of cash from the building in 2009 along with an “unknown item” according to a Freedom of Information document.

Bellaghy and Pomeroy stations were also the target of thieves in a series of incidents recorded last year.

£50 worth of roofing material was taken from the derelict Bellaghy PSNI station in 2011, whilst the former RUC station in Pomeroy was targeted by thieves twice who took a gate, door and a fence from the disused building. The items were estimated to be worth £57.

Despite the losses police in both Magherafelt and Cookstown fared better than their colleagues in West Belfast who lost a car worth £2,000 and a sun bed worth £800 in just two separate thefts.

The information was revealed by the PSNI in response to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request for a list of items recorded as stolen resulting from burglary, robbery or theft offences at PSNI premises

The PSNI caution that the information is based on operational data taken from a live crime recording system and may be subject to change.

The police stated that it was not possible to identify the ownership of the items stolen and some items will not directly belong to the PSNI but will have been in police possession as a result of property handed in/seizures/recoveries
