This initiative, which is delivered by Antrim and Newtownabbey Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP), has been operating across the borough for ten years since being established in June 2010.

The Community Safety Wardens play a pivotal role in the ongoing effort to tackle anti-social behaviour by providing a direct and visible presence on the street.

Using local knowledge and input from the other partners, the wardens are able to help reduce the occurrences and impact of anti-social behaviour across the borough.

The Community Safety Wardens Scheme is delivered by Sword Security and operates each Friday - Sunday from 5pm to midnight, key times that are recognised for anti-social behaviour.

Welcoming the development, Chair of Antrim and Newtownabbey Policing and Community Safety Partnership, Cllr Paul Dunlop, said: “The return of our Community Safety Wardens will discourage anti-social behaviour (ASB).

“Their presence is particularly welcome in those areas that are prone to this problem. I am encouraged they are returning to our streets and offering this support to the community.”

Working alongside the PSNI, local residents, the council and PCSP, the wardens have played a key role in a notable reduction in anti-social behaviour, not only via an on-street presence, but by also establishing confidence within local communities and working with local young people to divert their energies into more productive and positive activities.
