Security operation in village following report of suspicious object

Police are investigating a report of a suspicious object in the village of Articlave near Coleraine.

The PSNI operation is centred on the area around Church Terrace.

A police spokesman said: “Police are currently in attendance following a report of a suspicious object at the Church Terrace area of Articlave this evening (Thursday 19 November).

“A number of homes have been evacuated and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

“There are no further details at this stage.”

Independent councillor William McCandless said: “The news of a suspicious object being discovered in Articlave is most unwelcome. Local people having their evening disrupted on a bitterly cold dark Autumn evening is totally unacceptable.

“Instilling panic, disturbance and undoubtedly fear to this community is thoroughly inappropriate and I would appeal if anyone is aware of why this has device has been placed here or who was responsible please inform the PSNI.”
