It comes after incidents on busy traffic routes in the area over the weekend.

In a statement yesterday (Sunday), PSNI Antrim and Newtownabbey said: “Worryingly, early this morning we received a number of calls from the public, advising us of a group of youths throwing snowballs at cars on O’Neill Road and Church Road.

“We’re all for a bit of craic and a good old-fashioned snowball fight, but aiming them at passing vehicles is dangerous and, in those conditions, could cause a serious accident.

“We know that the community’s parents are doing the best they can at the minute, but can we please take a minute to make sure our kids are aware of the dangers this could cause.”

Police went on to issue advice to motorists about driving in wintry conditions.

“If you do have to venture out, be careful on the roads. Make sure to clear your windows, and give yourself extra time to get to where you’re going.”
