Sex offender found in care home

A convicted sex offender who visited an elderly neighbour in a care home, appeared at East Tyrone Magistrates Court sitting in Dungannon last Friday.

Geoffrey Rainey Kelly (36), of Lakeview Crescent, Fivemiletown, is accused of breaching the Sexual Offences Order by entering the home in the Aughnacloy area on October 24 last.

A PPS lawyer said at 7.15pm police were called to the home after staff recognised Kelly, a convicted sex offender, from reports in local newspapers.

He said the Sexual Offences Order prohibited the defendant being in contact with elderly vulnerable people.

The lawyer said Kelly was arrested and later told police that he was visiting a man for whom he would have carried out jobs for.

District Judge Michael Ranaghan said he required a pre-sentence report and adjourned the matter until April 3.
