Shivers case moved

CHARGES of assaulting a constable and resisting police against Brian Shivers have been transferred from Magherafelt to Londonderry Magistrates Court.

Shivers (46), from Sperrin Mews, Magherafelt, was recently jailed for life for murdering two soldiers outside Massereene Army Barracks in Antrim

District Judge Des Perry ordered that the case be transferred to the Bishop Street court “where they have the necessary facilities”.

Shivers denies assaulting the officer and resisting two others during an alleged incident at his home on March 3 last year.

A date will be fixed for a contest at Derry Court on April 5 and Shivers was excused from attending the hearing.
