‘Shocking and cowardly crime’

SDLP MLA Dolores Kelly has said she hopes the guilty verdict handed down to two men for the murder of PSNI Constable Stephen Carroll will bring comfort to his family.

Mrs Kelly said: “I hope that the verdict will bring some sense of comfort to Constable Carroll’s wife Kate, his family and friends.

“This was a shocking and cowardly crime that sent reverberations across our island.

“It is particularly disturbing that one of those convicted was so young.

“Although this verdict indicates that justice has been done, the sad fact is that it is not going to bring an innocent man back to his family.”
