Shoplifter jailed for theft of fragrance

A 32-year-old man who travelled from Belfast to steal goods worth £1,400 from Debenhams's in Rushmere was jailed for six months last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

Mareck Radulski, whose address was given to the court as Upper Frank Street, Belfast, admitted stealing fragrance and beauty products worth £1,422 from Debenham’s on May 24 last year.

The court heard that police received a report from the store of a male stealing a quantity of goods.

They searched the area but could not identify the person responsible.

Security staff at Rushmere had managed to intercept the culprit and the goods were recovered.

The defendant was interviewed on November 16 and gave a no comment interview.

But swabs taken from him matched DNA from a coat seized by the security staff.

District Judge, Mrs Bernie Kelly, told Radulski this was a ‘professional shoplifting enterprise’ aggravated by the fact that he travelled from Belfast so there was less likelihood he would be identified.

She added that there were eight offences of dishonesty on his record and he had been convicted of this offence after a contest.

The judge certified it was so serious there was only one penalty she could impose.

Sentencing Radulski to six months immediate custody she also ordered him to pay a £25 offender’s levy.
