Shore Road blaze ‘deliberate’

A fire close to a filling station in the Shore Road area of Newtownabbey is being treated as arson.

The incident in the Whitehouse area was reported to the emergency services shortly before 10pm on Tuesday, September 1.

One fire appliance from Glengormley Fire Station attended the incident.

A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to tyres on fire on Shore Road, Belfast on Tuesday night.

“Firefighters used two jets to extinguish the fire. The incident was under control by 10.31pm and the cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate ignition.”

A PSNI spokesperson added: “Police received a report of tyres on fire in the Shore Road area at around 9.55pm on September 1.

“NIFRS attended and extinguished the fire.”
