Six goals flatter Institute as Scott reign begins

Tobermore United 2 Institute 6

WHAT was always going to be a tough game for Tobermore, and newly appointed interim manager Jim Scott, was made even more difficult when McCrudden was given too much time inside the box and he put the Drumahoe side ahead with only 5 minutes on the clock.

However Tobermore seemed to have more determination in their play than in recent weeks and they levelled on the half hour mark when Ryan Doherty slotted home from close range and 4 minutes later the Reds went ahead when Neil Lamont shook off his markers and smashed home from the edge of the box.

Tobermore held onto the lead until half time but with only 5 minutes gone in the second half Parkhouse got the visitors back on level terms when he rose highest and expertly headed past Hassan.

Strait away Doherty had two great chances in as many minutes to put Tobermore back in front but his lob and header both sailed wide of Wilson’s goals and as regularly happens at this level you can be punished for missing chances and Stute did just that with Roddy putting the visitors back in front on 58 minutes and R L Doherty put the visitors further ahead on 72 minutes. Five minutes later Tobermore captain John Neil thought he had put his side right back into the game when he slotted home from a great through ball from Ryan Winton but  it was harshly ruled out for off side.

Two goals in the last 3 minutes from the impressive McCrudden, one a penalty, gave Stute a slightly flattering final scoreline which nonetheless keeps them in 2nd place in the league.

Tobermore: Hassan, Steele, Mulgrew, Donaldson, Neil, Forgrave, McClements, Heneghan, Lamont, Gardner, Doherty. Sub: Stewart, Winton, Henry.

Not the start Scotty would have hoped for but he is confident that with the proper attitude and commitment from the players things can be turned around.

This Saturday Tobermore have another break from their tough league campaign when they travel to Dungiven for a Craig Memorial Cup semi final game. This will be another very tough cup match against a top intermediate club who had Tobermore watched last Saturday and they will be up to take a Championship scalp. The game kicks off at 1.30 and is played to a finish.
