Slavery by illegalgangs probed

Two houses in Lurgan have been raided by police and a special team which probe offences including human slavery by illegal gangmasters.

A swoop was made on the properties in Albert Street at around 6am on Wednesday morning.

A spokesperson for the Gangmaster Licensing Authorty confirmed one person has been arrested and searches are continuing.

A PSNI Spokesperson said: “Officers from the GLA assisted by the Police Service of Northern Ireland executed two Search Warrants at houses in Lurgan in connection with offences relating to unlicensed Gangmaster activity contrary to the Gangmasters (Licensing) Act 2004.

“Enquiries regarding these matters are continuing and further update will be provided as soon as possible.”
