Solicitor facing charges linked to sham marriage

A TRAINEE solicitor from Castlerock has appeared in court to face charges linked to an alleged sham marriage.

Michelle Lyons, with an address in Castlerock, appeared at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Thursday on two charges of assisting unlawful immigration and six charges of fraud.

The court heard that the six charges relate to facilitating “driving licence applications.”

Lyons, 41, appeared following an operation by the UK Borders Agency against an alleged sham marriage at Belfast City Hall on August 10 this year.

Her case was adjourned until October 20th at Laganside Court.

Earlier, Robert Nicholl, 54, with an address in Castlerock and Ye Wang, with a Belfast address, appeared on sham marriage charges.
