Suspended jail term for local man

A Cookstown man who was said by the District Judge to have “pushed trolleys out of the local Tesco store without paying for the goods”, was given a four-month suspended jail sentence, at East Tyrone Magistrates Court, sitting in Dungannon, on Friday.

James Pue (28), of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to four charges of stealing goods from the store in September last year.

One of these included the theft of alcohol, electrical items and other goods, valued £453, belonging to Tesco on September 25.

He also admitted stealing alcohol, valued £35.90, from Burn Road Filling Station on August 11.

District Judge Michael Ranaghan said he accepted the defendant’s early plea to the charges and his addiction problems.

A defence lawyer said the offending was “totally out of character” for Pue.
