Tampered with an emergency vehicle

After setting a fire in Lurgan an 18 year old man climbed into one of the emergency response vehicles when it arrived at the scene, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Friday.

Daire McIlroy, Glenravel Drive, Lurgan, admitted tampering with a vehicle and damaging a newspaper box and newspapers at William Street on August 18 last year.

For the criminal damage he was sentenced to five months in custody, suspended for 18 months, and fined £250, with a £15 offender’s levy, for tampering with the vehicle.

A solicitor for the defendant said he appreciated this was an extremely serious matter and there was no excuse for his behaviour.

She added that McIlroy was the subject of a probation order imposed for disorderly behaviour. The fire was started as a prank.
