Teen stole from car

A TEENAGER who stole an iPod and a satellite navigation system from a car has been ordered to complete 200 hours community service.

Seamus Begley, of Edenmore Street, pleaded guilty to two charges of theft from the car and criminal damage on May 2, 2010.

Londonderry Magistrate’s Court heard the 19-year-old and another male, who was not before the court, caused damage to the steering column of a car parked outside Sevenoaks. An iPod, a satellite navigation system and a screwdriver set were also removed from the car.

Defence counsel Eoghan Devlin told the court his client was “involved with a fairly bad crowd” when he committed the offence.

Imposing the community service order, District Judge Barney McElholm also ordered Begley to pay £500 compensation to the injured party.
