In the dock was Kevin James Harrison (18), with an address at Jefferson Court, off Magazine Street, in the Cityside, who pleaded guilty a charge of assaulting police on February 3.

The prosecution said that on arrival at the hotel staff asked the police to remove Harrison from the premises due to his behaviour and the destruction being caused.

Police officers had to force entry to the hotel room because the lock was broken from the inside.

Once the door was opened Harrison proceeded to confront the officers and began shouting and swearing.

At this stage Harrison was holding a large vodka bottle in his hand and began swinging it about. The Prosecution said Harrison squared up to one of the officers and swung the vodka bottle towards his face, however it did not strike him.

It was revealed to the court Harrison is in breach of a suspended sentence for disorderly behaviour and resisting police.

Defence solicitor Maeliosa Barr told the court that his client had a difficulty with an addiction to substances known as legal highs and that had asked for a short period in custody to beat his habit.

On hearing the evidence the District Judged said he would impose a four-month jail term on Harrison.
