Teenager charged with riotous behaviour

A 13-year-old male has been charged with riotous behaviour and criminal damage. He is expected to appear before Londonderry Magistrates Court this morning, Monday 12th March.

As is normal procedure the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

It is believed these charges relate to an incident in the Madams Bank Road area on Sunday, March 11.

Police attended a report of a suspicious object in the area of Madams Bank Road shortly after 7pm. On arrival of Police a number of youths had started a fire at the junction of Madams Bank Road and Earhart Park. Stones and missiles were thrown at Police as they attempted to clear the road.

The NIFRS extinguished the fire and calm was restored shortly before 11.30pm.

Nothing suspicious was discovered in the area.
