Timely crime prevention tips

E DISTRICT’S Crime Prevention Officer is urging local residents to secure their vehicles this Christmas and avoid becoming a victim of thieves.

Crime Prevention Officer Shell Wilson said: “In the run up to Christmas more people are out and about shopping and buying presents and no one wants the festive season to be ruined by thieves and criminals.

“We are reminding the public of steps they can take to protect property in their vehicles.

“Do not leave purchases or shopping bags on display in your car. If a thief sees something of value sitting in your car then they will break in to get it.

“Always make sure your vehicle is properly locked and secured, even if leaving it for a very short time.

“Simple precautions such as closing the windows and locking the doors of your vehicle and locking valuable items in the boot of your car, or removing the face plate from your in-car stereo system can help ensure that your valuables will be kept safe. Taking just a few moments can significantly improve your chances of not becoming a victim of this type of crime.

“Improved car security features such as alarms, immobilisers and tracking devices can also help protect your vehicle and your valuables.

“It only takes seconds to break into a car so we are also asking all residents in E District to be vigilant.

“If you see something that looks out of place or not quite right, phone us straight away.”
